After losing his sister five years ago, Satsuki Kakeru led a vacant life, only able to return to his normal days with help from his childhood friend Minase Yuka and other friends at school.
Suddenly one day, the sky turns red and the moon turns black. Everyone besides Kakeru and Yuka disappears and monsters start roaming the streets. All that they were able to do was just to run away and hide. After a while, the world returns to normal. But just when they thought everything was a dream, the Red Night occurs again. Kakeru and Yuka manage to find four more humans who are involved in this mysterious phenomenon: Kusakabe Misuzu, a red-haired onmyouji swordswoman, Tachibana Kukuri, a strange mute girl who looks like Kakeru's deceased sister, Hirohara Yukiko, a lively young girl who reverts to the personality of a cold killer when her glasses are removed, and Tajima Takahisa, a young pyrokineticist.
They get together and try to survive, but six shadows suddenly appear in front of them...
I LOVED this anime! It was amazing! The theme song "Arrival of Tears" is something different that I haven't heard in a while. It has a spice of the theme song from Devil May Cry. I jammed to it for like weeks and then had it as my ringtone. LOL, okay well enough about that. What I loved most about this anime is that everybody had just an extensive storyline to tell. Everyone had a background that they could indefinitely contributed to the anime HAD IT ACTUALLY CONTINUED!
There were only a few tiny problems that I would change. For an anime with only 12 episodes (13 is an episode just for the fans) it kind of took its time with getting to the world. Imagine watching Digimon episode 1 but the Digimon don't make their appearance until episode 5 or 8. Yeah...It was frustrating to the characters as to why it was happening to them and they were clueless as to the whole ordeal. I feel that when story writers make the characters clueless they shouldn't make their audience just as clueless. When you watch Sword Art Online. You find out that the characters can't log out. When you find this out you just have to watch the characters to see how they'll manage/react. When watching this anime you get just as frustrated with the character because you're like, "OK ALRIGHT YES! We're in alternate world of red haze. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!!!"
I also felt as though the character's background's could have been explained a lot more. With so much to offer to create a complex and dynamic world the creators basically said, "Nope. That's our story and we're sticking to it." This next part is just personal preference, not a jab at the anime, but I hate the character who is like the most important factor, the one who holds it all together, the reason why everyone is fighting/dying/trying to protect you. And that character doesn't do S**T. I'm sorry but I'm against the tv trope where the ones with all the firepower have perished and the one with the "pure heart" is the last one standing. Get the F**K outta here..." Not gonna say any names.
I believe that the reason why this anime did not do as well as it should have was because of some of the elements that it was comprised of. Some of these I had aforementioned above. I loved what the characters COULD have been, what the story COULD have been, and how far the story COULD have gone. You will just have to watch it gather your own opinion. But the theme song is still number one, lol.
Watch only IF you're looking to kill time
To tell you the truth this anime wasn't all that good. I found it really hard to actually like the characters and the last few episodes they seemed like they tried to hard to catch peoples attention. Me personally would give this anime a 2/5 but if you're looking to kill some time then I suppose this would be the anime for you.
